PROGRESS REPORT FROM THE MANAGING COMMITTEE:
August 31, 2017
AIFF ACCREDITATION: A major achievement was our receiving the All India Football Federation’s Academy Recognition with a two-star rating.
The KFC Home Stadium and the KFC Hostel were the twin factors that gained us this honor.
KFC is the only Club in the District to win this accreditation.
Federation of Malayalee Associations of North America (FOMAA) had their Annual Convention in Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram. They donated Rs.1L., and the check was handed over to our Captains by Hon. Thomas Chandy, Minister of Transport. The organizers summoned the whole team who were in the hall in their colorful jerseys to the dais: it was a tremendous exposure prominently covered in Deccan Chronicle the next day.
Thank you FOMAA and John Mary, Editor of Deccan Chronicle.
On Aug. 13th our Director Mr. TJS George, received Kesari Award for excellence in journalism from Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, also our Board Member. Dr. Tharoor, KFC’s Founder-Director was present. The function was well attended by TRV based journalists. When Sally and I in the audience were introduced by the Convener Mr. Rahim, Dr. Tharoor added that we are connected with KFC and honored KFC with a revered public recognition. By his kind gesture, KFC has now become known to the senior journalists from the visual and print media.
Thank you, Dr. Tharoor!
THE KFC HOME STADIUM: In a remarkable breakthrough we secured a 15 year lease (of their football ground) from MV HIGHER SECONDRY SCHOOL, Arumanoor for Re.1/- a year. Thank you, Dr. Jayakumar, Neyyattinkara, the School Manager.
However, in order to develop the grounds into a regulation size stadium we needed about 4 meters wide, 34 meters long strip from the neighbor. It wasn’t easy, but our Director/GM, Asish’s relentless pursuit with super diplomatic techniques finally made the neighbor agree for a swap with the School. The Agreement will hopefully be signed and sealed soon after Onam.

Anand-Niketan Builders and ID Inc. are helping with the design, cost estimate, etc. Thank you, Rajagopal and Abhay. To bring it to international standard, their original estimate was Rs.2.5Crores. Since the property is only leased and also considering our financial limitations, we asked for a scaled down version; but enough to meet the AIFF specifications. Work will begin soon to make it ready for the upcoming Kerala Premier and Indian Premier League matches. Dr. Tharoor will donate Rs.25Lakhs towards this project. Once again, thank you, Dr.Tharoor!
FOMAA officials assured that they will consider our request for funds to buy about 2 acres of land for the Stadium project in exchange of our naming the Stadium, FOMAA International Stadium.
THE HOSTEL: For legal and security reasons another Society (Kovalam Football Club Hostel) is in the registration process and has already assumed day-to-day management of the hostel. Mathew/Sally Trust (M/SET) donated Rs.5Lakhs to set up the present hostel for 17 children in a leased house and for the operational expenses from May to September, 2017. From October, KFCH will seek donations to meet the running cost: M/SET has committed up to Rs.10,000 per month.
Search is now on for at least 50 cents of land near the MVHS School to build our own hostel to accommodate 240 children, 20 each to a grade from 1 to 12. The new Hostel will admit all those who are interested to receive intense coaching in football along with their studies, subject to space. The hostel expenses will be divided and charged to the children. F
ree hostel and education for the impoverished will continue with M/SET’s financial assistance.
Thayil Jacob Family, Thumpamon will donate the lead-finance to build the infrastructure to be leased to KFCH for Re.1/- a year. Jacob family’s Mr. TJS George donated Rs.1L.; Prof. Thomas Kailath of Stanford University Rs.25L. and Sally Mathew, Kovalam, Rs.20L. to this Project. Thank you, Jacob Family!
Once the land is purchased, we will launch our fund raising campaign for the Hostel project, hopefully by the 2019/20 academic year.
PROGRESS REPORT FOM THE MANAGING COMMITTEE: August 31, 2017
CATCH ‘EM YOUNG PROGRAM: A widespread concept in Europe, now adopted by all their major Football Clubs, is not yet launched in India. Under an Agreement with TEDDYBUDDIES Pre-Schools our coaches, qualified in grassroots training, will go to both their locations (Techno Park and Kowdiyar) once a week and teach their girls and boys the basics of football. Once they have acquired enough skills and techniques, the interested trainees will be absorbed by KFC Academy for higher coaching Saturday and Sunday afternoo
ns in the Central Stadium.
KFC ACADEMY: At present 130 boys/girls are receiving quality coaching from our four coaches. We have a visiting coach from London who spends a month each twice a year. Friends of KFC in London have registered a company, KFC (UK) Ltd., to promote our cause there. They will send a Club Coach for a two months’ football camp here and will set up a program to take a few of our promising players to participate in the UK Clubs’ summer camps. We hope to open a similar chapter in USA.
We thank you for all the support you extended, and still extending, to us and will be grateful to be guided by you in future, too.
WE’VE DONE IT AGAIN: Our Seniors won the GARRINCHA CUP in the 2017 Pre-Season Exposure Tournament. In all, eight teams competed.
